Take Care (2014) NR

Recently hit by a car, Fran (Leslie Bibb, Iron Man) is struggling to take care of herself with only one working arm and one working leg.  She finally swallows her pride and calls her ex-boyfriend Devon (Thomas Sadoski, Loser) whom she took care of through his cancer, much to the dismay of his current girlfriend.

This was a charming and cute movie.  When I was working on looking up past credits for the actors for this review, I happened to catch a few bad reviews in passing.  They were all about aspects of the plot... she was using guilt, Devon is a cheater, etc.  Nothing really bad about the film itself, but about the integrity of the characters in the story.  Not even about the story, just that the people in it were terrible people.

Well gee... not every film is about Mary Poppins.

Personally, I liked the film.  It's part revenge story, it's part past-love story, and it's part cancer-survivor testimony.  It's also about how some relationships are effortless, and some take a lot of work.  A l-o-o-o-o-ot of work.

I think some topics are triggers for people.  If it ruins their enjoyment of a film, that's the way it is.  Could it have been a good movie if she'd simply used the situation to get closure, and ended up with her cute neighbor?  I suppose.  But as it was presented, it's a "one-that-got-away" fantasy with a happy ending.

Six laugh out loud moments, and one holy crap moment when she is barely able to roll over and she drops her phone.  As a crafting movie, it's perfect with lots of dialogue and very little action.  I gave it a five out of five stars, and I don't do that often.  Fran was charming and mischievous, and Devon was a not-too-handsome guy who showed a caring side.  I can get past the part where they're not perfect people, and just enjoy.
