Cat Run (2011) R

Paz Vega (Carmen), Janet McTeer (Songcatcher), Alphonso McAuley (Breaking In), Scott Mechlowicz (Gone)

When an east European hooker finds herself at a party where everyone is killed, she goes on the run with a video-surveillance hard drive that may or may not keep her alive.  She steals a car from a pair of would-be detectives, and now everyone is just trying to stay one step ahead of the hired guns who are out for blood.

This movie is a mixed up bag of styles that shouldn't work... but somehow does.  I will
warn you right now, there is a lot of nudity, including a male full-frontal that will make your jaw drop.  A bit of RED, a bit of Ocean's 11, a smidge of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and a bit of Boogie Nights, and it's a cocktail that will at least please the action-movie lover in your life.  Especially the ones into T&A.

Five laugh out loud moments, and two holy crap moments for one scene of torture and the male full-frontal (the guy needs an extra-long kilt, wow).  The gunplay is gory.  The torture and hand-to-hand combat is brutal.  The main assassin is an ice-cold British woman who will probably spear your eyeballs out if you're not polite and proper.  If this had taken place anywhere else in the world, I probably would have liked it more.  The accents were thick, and I'm really tired of Russian, Czech, and German bad guys.

As a maker's movie, it's okay, but you'll be dropping your needles often for the fight scenes and reading the occasional subtitles when they lapse into native languages.  I gave it a four out of five stars.  It might have gotten a half star more if they had not done the cheesy "where are they now" cards at the end.  It was nice to know how they all ended up, but honestly it can be presented in a much better fashion.
